Improving your quality of life is at the core of what we do at Green Grove. Our main ingredient is Cannabidiol (CBD). It is a biologically active chemical extracted from a proprietary strain of the hemp plant.

The Difference Between CBD and THC

The two chemicals in cannabis that are known for their medicinal value are CBD and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

THC is an active chemical compound in marijuana that delivers the “high” that occurs from ingesting or smoking marijuana. Unlike THC, CBD is not psychoactive, nor does it produce a “high” feeling. Instead, there are many studies that support the anti-psychotic and anti-anxiety qualities of CBD. Sometimes, CBD is even combined with THC to counter the mind-altering effects of THC. When used in its oil form, CBD has provided many health benefits.

Early Discoveries

CBD oil has a rich history. The earliest written account of CBD Oil was in ancient China in 2737 B.C. Chinese emperor Shen-Nung used cannabis. He also used it as a topical ointment.

As human civilization progressed, many studies about the health benefits of CBD oil began to appear in Asian pharmacopeias. The use of CBD oil as an anesthetic and blood thinner were first recorded in second century B.C. in the studies of Hua Tuo, a Chinese physician who was the first person to use anesthesia during surgery.

The Rise of CBD Oil

In the 16th century, cannabis was cultivated almost everywhere in Europe. It was so valuable that in 1533, King Henry VIII ordered all farmers to grow hemp in their farm. Many physicians during that time documented the uses of CBD oil as an antibiotic and appetite stimulant.

In the 1600s, cultivation of hemp came to the United States of America. There were laws passed mandating hemp cultivation by farmers in Virginia, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. There were even laws that considered hemp seeds as a legal tender to pay for goods and services in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

Fast Forward in Time

In the United States, extracts of cannabis are used for healing purposes. By 1996, California had legalized medical use of cannabis for several serious medical conditions.

CBD oil derived from hemp plants is available in almost all states, and studies about the chemical’s effect on health has significantly increased. Today’s technology has given new methods of extracting and refining CBD. It also has increased the availability of CBD oil through various technologies such as nanoemulsions that make CBD a water-soluble chemical to increase its potency.  The high demand for CBD oil has grown so fast that sales are expected to exceed $1 billion by 2020.
